Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Jurgen Klopp has suggested that Curtis Jones won’t play against Norwich on Saturday.

Liverpool kick off their Premier League campaign against the Canaries, and they go into this game with a squad that is almost fully fit.

Andy Robertson is struggling with injury, and while Klopp says Jones is fit after he suffered a concussion, he says he won’t be played as a protocol to protect him.

What’s been said?

Klopp was delivering an update on his players’ fitness.

“We have no major injuries apart from Robbo obviously who is not available for the weekend, and Curtis who is ‘fit’ again and it’s just a protocol and we will of course respect that,” Klopp said.

Shame

With Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson returning to pre-season late, this could have been a real chance for Jones to start.

Sadly, he’s suffering a problem of his own, and while Klopp says he’s fit, it’s not worth taking any unnecessary risks with a player’s health, especially with something like a head injury.

This term should be a big one for Jones. There have been reports that Klopp will utilise him more often this season, and we all know how talented he is, with the Liverpool gaffer even calling him ‘exceptional’ last year.
