Leeds United forward Kemar Roofe struggled to get involved against Derby County in midweek as the Whites slipped to another defeat.
Roofe was excellent at the start of the season for Leeds, but in recent weeks his form has gone backwards.
The loss to Derby was a case in point. He completed only six passes and was hauled off after 75 minutes.
Roofe did manage to create one chance with his limited touches of the ball, which only highlights what a failure it was tactically that he was not more involved.
In a tough away game, a small number of touches and passes may be more understandable, but this was a home game Leeds hoped to dominate, and in which they took the lead early.
Wasted
Leeds saw last season that Roofe struggles when playing out wide, and he is not producing in this role.
At the beginning of the campaign he was at his best when he was playing up front.
He started up front against Nottingham Forest, arguably Leeds most complete display of the season.
It is hard to argue with striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga’s return of five goals in nine games, but Leeds look a less fluid side with him up front.
Roofe needs to be used as a striker if Leeds are to get the best out of him and their surrounding players, and if Lasogga is first choice, then he should be on the bench and used as an impact substitute.
Against Derby he was anonymous, and Leeds need to work out a way to get the best out a player who has just one goal and no assists in his last eight games.
