Newcastle United midfielder Mohamed Diame was unimpressive in the win over Norwich.

Newcastle United made a dramatic comeback last night as they beat Norwich City 4-3.

They scored twice in injury time to clinch the win, which was even more astounding as they had been 3-1 down.

As Dwight Gayle pulled one back to make it 3-2, manager Rafa Benitez made a double change, taking off Mohamed Diame and Jack Colback.

Diame in particular was disappointing, and was barely involved for Newcastle during the 71 minutes he had on the pit

Diame touched the ball only 30 times, and offered little going forward, or defensively.

The midfielder was a key part of the Hull City team which clinched promotion through the play-offs last season, scoring the winner at Wembley.

At Newcastle he is yet to show the type of form he is capable of, and last night was an encapsulation of that.

The team looked brighter after Benitez’s substitutions, and there is no guarantee the Senegalese star will keep his place this weekend.

The double substitution saw Isaac Hayden come on in midfield and Aleksandar Mitrovic come on to play alongside Gayle up front, and it worked wonders.

The switch may convince Benitez to adopt a more attacking approach for the weekend clash away to Rotherham United, with one fewer midfield spot potentially available.
