Pierluigi Gollini could be on his way out of Fiorentina just months after Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur decided not to trigger the £13 million option-to-buy clause in his contract, according to Tuttomercatoweb.
Since the start of 2021/22, the Atalanta-owned Italy international has played just three league matches. No wonder Gollini’s future is once again up in the air; the 27-year-old finding first-team action as hard to come by at Fiorentina as he did during 12 forgettable months in North London.
Pietro Terracciano remains firmly established as La Viola’s number one between the sticks. And dreadful mistake during September’s 3-0 UEFA Europa League defeat to Istanbul Basaksehir – Gollini robbed of the ball after making the bizarre decision to attempt keepy uppies on the edge of his own penalty area – certainly didn’t endear him to Fiorentina supporters, setting the tone for what would be another disappointing campaign at club level.

Former Tottenham misfit Pierluigi Gollini could be moved on again
Gollini, TMW say, could now return to Atalanta ahead of schedule. There is also a chance he will be farmed out once again by Gian Piero Gasperini’s Champions League-chasing side in January.
“I thought it could be Gollini’s year,” former Serie A ‘keeper Gianluca Pagliuca tells Radio Firenze Viola. “But Terracciano has shown that he is very consistent and is having a very good season.”
After Tottenham decided against stumping up the £13 million fee required to keep Gollini in North London, a disappointing start to the current campaign is hardly what the one-time Aston Villa prospect needed as he looks to rebuild his once-burgeoning reputation.
According to The Sun, Antonio Conte was less than impressed by Gollini’s performances at Spurs; making it clear that he would not be retained with Fraser Forster arriving from Southampton to take his place.
Interestingly, Tottenham are back in the market for another glovesman with Hugo Lloris turning 36 on Boxing Day. Giorgi Mamardashvili, Robert Sanchez and Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak are all potential replacements for the long-serving Frenchman.
Who will replace Hugo Lloris at Spurs?
“(Mamardashvili) is the signing that Valencia has made in recent times,” says ex-Valencia ‘keeper Miguel Angel Moya.
“It is true that, if he continues like this, it will be difficult to retain him. But the club has done very well to keep him and renew (his contract). It seems to me that, right now, he is one of the best goalkeepers in La Liga, without a doubt.
“Of the under-23s in Europe, along with Diego Costa of Porto, he is the one I like the most. He reminds me a lot of (Thibaut) Courtois; with a big wingspan, very tall but agile. He has determination, takes risks, dominates and he can block (shots).
“By telling you that he is my goalkeeper in Fantasy Football, I think I tell you everything!”
The Giorgia international has been one of La Liga’s breakthrough performers over the last 12 months or so.
