Jürgen Klopp has admitted to This Is Anfield that he wishes he had the chance to coach Steven Gerrard at Liverpool.

What’s the story?

Well, Klopp was asked which player throughout the history of football he would like to have coached, and the German said his answer was ‘easy’.

The Liverpool boss is quoted as saying: “That’s easy. It’s Stevie. Stevie and me together in the roles, he as the man on the pitch and me as a coach, that would have been nice. So it’s Stevie.”

It’s painful that the pair never crossed paths.

Gerrard left Anfield in the summer of 2015 whilst Brendan Rodgers was still in charge.

Klopp then arrived on Merseyside just months later, penning a three-year deal in October 2015.

We were so close to witnessing a truly incredible pairing.

Unfortunately, Gerrard – who earns £52,500-a-week at Rangers – bowed out with a 6-1 loss to Stoke in quite miserable fashion, despite scoring.

Klopp and Gerrard would’ve been remarkable at Liverpool

Imagine Gerrard in his prime playing under Klopp – wow.

The iconic midfielder was tailor made for the German’s style of football.

Gerrard was full of energy, had a ferocious longshot on him, and was capable of playing passes which made supporters get off their seats.

Add in his passion for the Reds, which Klopp has plenty of himself, and the pair could’ve done incredible things together on Merseyside.

It’s painful to say, but we feel Klopp also would’ve delivered the Premier League title Gerrard so desperately deserved.

Sadly, the timing just wasn’t right.
