Speaking to Liverpool’s official club website, Jurgen Klopp has delivered a positive update on Roberto Firmino after his injury.

Firmino went down with a hamstring injury in early November, and he hasn’t been seen in first-team action since.

However, according to Klopp, the Brazilian is now back in full training and he could even play against Newcastle.

What’s been said about Firmino?

Klopp gave an update on the attacker.

“I really don’t like to talk about it because always when I say something like, ‘It looks really good’, then I get a call, but it looks OK in the moment. No new injuries,” Klopp said.

“Bobby is back in full training, Curtis yesterday in big parts of training.”

The gaffer would then echo a similar sentiment in his press conference later in the day:

“Bobby trained completely normal. He’s in contention. Curtis did the first session partially with the team. He’s not far off. Getting two players back of this calibre is good news.”

Perfect time to return

With all due respect to Newcastle, this could be the perfect game for Roberto Firmino to make his return.

Indeed, while we don’t want to disrespect the Magpies, Firmino will certainly be salivating at the prospect of returning against the Premier League team with the joint-worst defensive record in the division.

The Magpies have conceded 34 goals so far this term, and it wouldn’t surprise us one bit of Firmino compiles the misery by adding one or two more to that tally on Thursday.

Liverpool will be desperate for the striker to hit the ground running upon his return, especially with the African Cup of Nations on the horizon, and this could be the perfect match for him to come back in.
