Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has told the club’s official website how Adrian reacted when he was told that he would not start against Ajax.
Adrian was a substitute during Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Ajax at Anfield in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.
Caoimhin Kelleher started between the posts for the defending Premier League champions, and the performance of the 22-year-old was impressive.
Klopp has praised Adrian’s attitude and reaction when he was told that he would not start at Anfield in midweek.
The German told Liverpool’s official website: “But Adrian doesn’t deserve just to be written off now, there’s no reason for that. He supported Caoimhin in an exceptional way.
“After he got the information that he would not start, he behaved unbelievably. Really, really a lot of respect for that. He expected it actually, but anyway a lot of respect for it.”
Concern for Adrian?
Adrian has been the number two goalkeeper at Liverpool, and it should be a concern for the former West Ham United star that Kelleher started ahead of him against Ajax.
The Spaniard has made mistakes, and the impressive performance of Kelleher will probably see him stay in the team against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League game this weekend.
The 22-year-old is only going to get better in the coming years, and Klopp could decide to play him whenever Alisson is unavailable.
The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international goalkeeper has a bright future ahead of him.
