Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool lost to Real Madrid in the Champions League final last season.

Karius suffered a concussion during the match, but it was not known until days later.
The German goalkeeper made two bad mistakes, as Madrid got the better of Liverpool 3-1 to win the Champions League for the third season in a row.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed his initial reaction when he heard from Bayern Munich and Germany legend Franz Beckenbauer about the concussion suffered by the 25-year-old goalkeeper.

Klopp told Liverpool’s official website: “After four days I got a call from Franz Beckenbauer, our Bobby Moore, our biggest football player who is a good friend of mine.
“He called me and said he came from a doctor, he told me: ‘your goalkeeper had a concussion.’ I said, ‘what?’ because in the game, from my position that situation is not very good to see: ‘maybe there was contact or not.’ I told him immediately, ‘OK’.
“He said the doctor is the most famous doctor in Germany. I said: ‘OK, give me a few minutes, I have to fix a few things.’
“I got all the pictures from different perspectives, saw it and thought: ‘how can we all think that the boy who didn’t show any weakness in that game until then made these big mistakes in a very important game and nobody thinks it’s because of the knock he got?’
“How can we think that? That was, for me, the explanation and I thought: ‘OK, come on, we need to check that.’”

Moving on
Karius, who earns £25,000 per week as salary according to The Express, will know how bad his mistakes were against Madrid, but the 25-year-old German goalkeeper will have to move on.
The former Germany Under-21 international will have to show that he is strong enough to put those mistakes behind him and have a good pre-season.
Karius has been on the books of Liverpool since the summer of 2016 when he joined from German club Mainz for a transfer fee reported by The Telegraph to be worth £4.75 million.
