Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has suggested to the club’s official website that Harvey Elliott needs to work on his finishing.

Klopp has praised the winger following his performance for Liverpool in their pre-season friendly match against Blackpool on Saturday.

The 17-year-old winger came on as a substitute in the match and scored the Reds’ fourth goal of the encounter.

It was the teenager’s first goal for Liverpool, as the Premier League champions came from two goals down to win 7-2 in their final pre-season friendly match of the summer.

Klopp was pleased with Elliott’s performance, and while he praised his quality, he also underlined the importance of the winger getting better at finishing.

Klopp told Liverpool’s official website about Elliott when asked to comment on his goal: “It’s in his hands. I liked much more the offers he made today, he was really sharp, he was quick, he offered different runs to what he is usually doing.

“Inside this little boy is a playmaker, he can be a playmaker, but he has to be a finisher as well. You have to be a striker, you have to be a defender and all that stuff.

“That’s what we are all trying to figure out to bring it on the pitch – and that’s good, of course. It was very nice for him to score this goal today.”

Harvey Elliott will get better

Elliott is only just starting his career, and since he is just 17 years of age, he is not the finished article, and there is room for improvement.

The winger is hugely talented, and he would not have played for Liverpool in competitive matches if manager Klopp did not think that he has what it takes to succeed in his team.

It seems that Klopp wants the England Under-17 international to be a complete attacking player, one who can create chances and score goals, and that shows just how highly the German rates him.
