Jurgen Klopp is full of praise for Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita.
Jurgen Klopp has told Liverpool’s official website that Naby Keita will blossom into a ‘massive player’ for the club eventually.
The 23-year-old has endured a stop-start first few months at Liverpool following a £52 million summer move from RB Leipzig in Germany.
Keita, who has played two minutes of first-team football since October 7 through injury, has made nine Premier League appearances this season, but five of those have been as a substitute.
The German manager spent a significant amount of money on bringing the Guinea-born star to Anfield, but the lack of fitness and form has meant that he has been unable to showcase the best of his abilities as of yet.
But the former Borussia Dortmund boss is in no doubt that Keita is a gem and backs him to prove as much since returning from injury.
“Naby Keita will be – and he is – an outstanding player,” he told Liverpool’s website.
“I don’t read the English press, but this week I caught a headline of something and I didn’t say it like this or mean it like that – Naby was not average since he came in.
“The situation after he got injured was average because he has to get fit again, but the start was brilliant. He will be a massive player in the future for LFC and he is already. He is now really fit, he looks sharp in training.”
Going by Klopp’s comments, Keita is training well and it’ll be interesting to see if he is used in tonight’s Champions League clash away to Paris Saint-Germain.
It’s a massive game and considering Keita has barely kicked a ball in close to two months, the Liverpool manager might well play it safe and go with Fabinho and Georginio Wijnaldum.
