Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool were “angry” in Swansea win

The German admits he walked into an angry dressing room after coming from behind to beat Swansea 2-1 at the Liberty Stadium.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that his players were angry at half time after recovering from a goal down to beat Swansea 2-1 according to the club’s website.

Some slack defending allowed Leroy Fer to bundle the ball home from a corner in the eighth minute to give the hosts the lead, but Liverpool had to wait until after the break to hit back as Roberto Firmino headed home their equaliser before another James Milner penalty gave the visitors all three points.

Although The Reds found Swansea in difficult mood on Saturday lunchtime, their dogged display deservedly yielded a fourth straight league win as they climb to second in the table, behind Manchester City and ahead of Tottenham, with those teams playing each other on Sunday.

Yet Klopp admitted that he was deeply unhappy with his side’s first-half display, going 1-0 down at half-time and even took some responsibility for Liverpool’s bad start.

Klopp told the club’s website: “I said to the boys, ‘I am 49 and I have lost a lot of football games and unfortunately I will lose a few more, but today makes no sense’.

“It’s not a day where we should lose a football game because we could have done so much better in the first half and we could still do better in the second half. We were angry at half-time, but with ourselves, nobody else. It was very important that we showed the reaction in the second half.

“I didn’t think before the game that this would be the day where we would be that bad because there was no sign in training this week. But that’s what we are still learning and we have enough time to think about it now until we play again. I was not happy with the start, that’s true, so I feel my responsibility [for that].”

Despite Klopp’s choice words for his Liverpool side, he will be pleased at a fifth straight win in all competitions and the manner in which they turned the match around with a comfortable second-half performance.

Although they have failed to keep a clean sheet so far in the league, they do have the quality in attack to outscore their opponents and with a favourable run of fixtures ahead, Liverpool could continue to assert themselves as outsiders for the title.
