Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has told The Liverpool Echo that Rhys Williams has been “exceptional” so far this season.

Klopp has been impressed with the 19-year-old defender and rates the talented and promising teenager highly.

The German told The Liverpool Echo: “We had some problems for injuries, that is clear. Lost top-class players but when one door closes another opens up but you need the right kids to use. And how the boys did it…Rhys exceptional, Neco played 2 good games in a row.”

How has Rhys Williams fared for Liverpool this season?

Wiliams is only 19 years of age and is far from the finished article. In fact, the teenager has yet to play in the Premier League.

However, the youngster has done well for Liverpool in the Champions League. According to WhoScored, the England Under-21 international has made two starts and three substitute appearances in Europe’s premier club competition for the Reds so far this season.

Williams has looked strong, calm and confident at the back, and it is clear that he is a very talented and promising young player.

With Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez long-term injury absentees, Williams will get more chances to play in the first team in the coming weeks and months, and he will have to make the most of them.

Liverpool are level on points with leaders Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League table and have already booked their place in the last-16 stage of the Champions League.
