Speaking to Liverpool’s official club website, Jurgen Klopp has been discussing Fabio Carvalho after he arrived on Merseyside.
Carvalho was the Reds’ first signing of the summer, and it’s fair to say that there is plenty of intrigue around this signing.
The youngster spent most of last season playing as a number 10 for Fulham, and given that Liverpool don’t currently utilise a number 10, many have been wondering where he will play.
Klopp has stated that Carvalho can play either as a number 10, a number eight or as a winger, and he’s even claimed that he could play as a false nine if he adds on a bit of muscle mass.
What’s been said?
Klopp discussed Carvalho and his position.
“When we watched him it was a pure joy to watch him, absolutely. He can play so many different positions for us, the way we play. At the minute he’s not really set on one position – it’s the wing, it’s the eight, it’s the 10, it’s the false nine if he grows a few more muscles,” Klopp said.
“It’s a short-term and a long-term project; he can start tomorrow and he needs to adapt, you can see that a little bit, but when he has the ball that’s proper quality. I’m over the moon that he’s here. Fantastic prospect.”

Time on his side
Luckily for Jurgen Klopp, Fabio Carvalho has time on his side if he wants him to bulk up.
At the age of just 19, Carvalho hasn’t even finished growing yet, and if he hits the gym, there’s no reason why he can’t be a more physical player.
Of course, the fact that he can also play in three other positions is a huge benefit too, but his best role in this Liverpool team may be as a false nine, and if he’s going to play that role, he needs to be stronger.
Carvalho may want to start hitting the weights at the AXA Training Centre.
