Liverpool will be without Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain until November, according to a report.
Speaking to The Liverpool Echo, Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he has told stricken Liverpool star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain that the team will wait for him like a “good wife when a man is in prison”.
Oxlade-Chamberlain was ruled out of Liverpool’s end-of-season fixtures – including the Champions League final with Real Madrid – and England’s World Cup campaign in Russia after suffering a knee ligament injury in the first-leg win over Roma last month.
But Klopp is adamant that the Reds will not forget about the 24-year-old, who helped the Anfield club into the semi-final of the Champions League with a goal in the last-eight tie with Manchester City.
He said: “I cannot believe that this wonderful player and person in such a positive situation helping the team, making such a clear challenge, had this happen to him.
“I’ve told him already that we will wait for him like a good wife when a man is in prison.”
Oxlade-Chamberlain has indeed remained positive despite the devastation of having his season turned upside down by such a setback, and sent a video message to his team-mates during the club’s end-of-season awards last week.
The former Southampton youth hasn’t always thrived since the big-money move to Merseyside, but he had shown brilliant signs of real progress in the weeks prior to his injury and he should be able to continue that progression when he returns.
