The Liverpool right-back defied his tender years last night.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp spoke to reporters after last night’s incredible 4-0 win over Barcelona in the Champions League, and offered high words of praise for Trent Alexander-Arnold, labelling the right-back as a ‘genius’, as quoted by the club’s official website.
The 20-year-old was quite simply brilliant for the Reds last night, at both ends of the pitch, and he was arguably Klopp’s stand-out performer.
The Liverpool ace played a key role in two of his side’s goals last night, but it was his quick thinking when taking a corner with just over 10 minutes remaining that stole all of the headlines.
Alexander-Arnold quickly whipped in a pass to Divock Origi before the Barca players had even set up into a defensive shape, and the Belgian subsequently smashed home the winner.
And Klopp raved about the young Englishman, when speaking to reporters after the match, as quoted by the club’s official website:
“We all know you need luck in this situation, or a genius moment like Trent Alexander-Arnold [for the fourth goal]. I saw the ball flying into the net and I had no idea who took the corner and who scored because it was too quick for me. Now I saw it back and it’s just incredibly smart, two players connected – in this moment it was enough. My God, genius.”
The 20-year-old is undoubtedly defined for the very top, and his display for Liverpool last night proved that he is more than capable of mixing it with the very best in the game.
