Jurgen Klopp addressed the media today ahead of his side’s clash with Huddersfield Town tomorrow night, and raved about the quality of James Milner, suggesting that the experienced midfielder is like a machine when taking penalties, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.

The 33-year-old joined the Reds on a free transfer from Manchester City in the summer of 2015, and he has gone on to make 172 appearances in all competitions for the Merseyside outfit.

Milner is wonderfully versatile, and has proven to be a vital player for Liverpool, especially when filling in at either right-back or left-back.

Perhaps the most impressive thing about his game, however, is his superb penalty taking.

At club level, Milner has scored 27 from 31 attempts from the spot, and he has been successful in his last six penalties.

And Klopp told reporters that the Liverpool ace’s success from the spot is all down to his hard work in training, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo:

James Milner of Liverpool scores a penalty

“He’s like a machine in these moments. He trains them. Milly is experienced. He has had important penalty shoot-outs in his life. He know it’s all about how you keep your body in the right position and the right technique and then done. He has also missed a penalty in a pretty important game if I’m right but he’s like a machine. He switches off all emotions and puts the ball in the net. That’s the way to do it.”

Milner will be vitally important to Liverpool over this next month, especially if his side are given a chance to score from the spot.

He might be unheralded and unfashionable, but Klopp has made it very clear just how highly he rates the Englishman.
