Liverpool hasn’t ruled out Georginio Wijnaldum and Adam Lallana from playing a part in Monday’s game

Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has yet to rule out either Adam Lallana or Georginio Wijnaldum of Monday night’s game with Manchester United, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Lallana has been struggling with a groin problem that he suffered in the early stages of the win over Swansea nearly two weeks ago, while Wijnaldum returned from international duty with what appeared to be a hamstring problem.

However, the Liverpool Echo reports, that scans revealed the Dutchman’s problem is more down to an issue with his hip and no timescale had been put on his recovery.

Klopp updated the media on the fitness of his players: “There are issues with Gini and Adam, they are not ruled out for the game but we only have four training sessions left.”

However, there was good news for Dejan Lovren and Nathaniel Clyne who are ‘in the race’ in the words of Klopp – meaning they are in line to start Monday night’s game.

If recent history suggests anything then both Wijnaldum and Lallana will have to play a full part in training between now and Monday night to be in with a chance of starting.

It would be a blow to lose both players but it could present an opportunity for Emre Can to reclaim his place in the side after becoming an integral part of the Reds midfield towards the end of last season. He has yet to feature in a Premier League game from the start this term, while Klopp may play a recognised striker in the front three and drop Philippe Coutinho into the midfield role usually occupied by Lallana.
