Despite playing a bit-part role for Liverpool, Divock Origi’s contributions from the bench can be and have been absolutely invaluable to the team.
Jurgen Klopp has praised Divock Origi for the contribution he made during Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Leicester City on Saturday.
The Reds netted a stoppage-time penalty when the referee adjudged that Sadio Mane was fouled in the area by Marc Albrighton – Origi’s forward run resulted in the Foxes player having to defend in the penalty area, which ended up proving costly for him.
Just like last season, Origi is set to play a role from the bench for the club, as he has made one Premier League start this term.
Speaking to Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (05/10/2019 at 5:00 pm), Klopp stated that Origi is in a ‘really, really good shape’ currently.
“Divock is in really, really good shape, at the moment, I have to say, it’s really good,” Klopp told Sky Sports News. “When he came on, you have immediately these one on one situations on the wing again. He was involved in corners, and in the penalty situation as well.”
Last season, Origi’s performances and goals from the bench helped Klopp’s side secure some much-needed points.
Once again, he is proving he can have that impact, as the Reds currently sit top of the Premier League table with an eight-point lead.
