Klopp has spoken highly of the 28-year-old former Manchester City and Chelsea striker.
“He is in very good shape, that’s true,” Klopp told Liverpool’s official website about Sturridge. “It was a very intense pre-season so far and he was part of pretty much all the sessions. He looks really good.
“Who doubts Daniel Sturridge when he is fit? I don’t. He is an outstanding player, hopefully he can stay fit and then the future is bright. He is still young enough, it’s not that he is 30-something.”
Hints on future?
Klopp’s aforementioned comments do suggest that Sturridge could stay at Liverpool and are hints on his future.
It is clear that the Liverpool manager rates the 28-year-old striker highly, and perhaps the England international does still have a future at Anfield.
Sturridge has had injury problems throughout his career, and even when fit, the striker has not been able to establish himself in the Liverpool first team under Klopp.
Back in June, The Telegraph reported of Sevilla and Fenerbahce’s interest in Sturridge, and claimed that Liverpool were willing to sell the striker for £15 million.
Klopp’s latest comments, though, suggest that he is ready to give the 28-year-old striker another chance at Liverpool.
