Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has praised Curtis Jones on the club’s official website for his heroics against West Ham United on Sunday evening.

Jones did not start the Premier League game at the London Stadium for Liverpool, but the midfielder came on in place of James Milner in the 57th minute.

The 20-year-old made an immediate impact, as he provided the assist for Mohamed Salah to score.

Klopp has disclosed what he told the youngster as he was coming on as a substitute.

The Liverpool boss has added that he did not expect the England Under-21 international to make that quick an impact.

Klopp told Liverpool’s official website: “[Jones] coming on and making this run. Actually the last words I told him, ‘Please be cheeky, be cheeky and try something, be active and these kind of things.’ I didn’t think that he starts with that with the first touch! But it was good.”

Rising star

Jones is now a key member of the first-team squad, and the midfielder’s performances this season have been very encouraging.

According to WhoScored, Jones has made seven starts and seven substitute appearances in the Premier League and has played four times in the Champions League for Liverpool so far this season.

For Liverpool to win the Premier League title and the Champions League this season, Jones will be a big player for the team.
