Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has told Sky Sports that Curtis Jones is desperate to play for the first team all the time.

Klopp has said that Jones does not get demotivated when he is in and out of the team, and that the midfielder has a good attitude in training.

The Liverpool boss told Sky Sports about Jones: “He’s had highs already and there have been downs too but when you’re here, at home, who cares?

“You learn from it and you get stronger. He’s stronger now for sure than he was last year, even though last season already he’d played a few really good games.

“He was on the teamsheet, then wasn’t, then wasn’t even in the squad but that’s normal. He’s not the player to think I’m not in the team, I won’t train hard. He wants it. He’s now in a really good moment and we have to make sure it lasts.”

Progressing and developing at Liverpool

Jones is a Liverpool academy graduate and has broken into the first team.

However, as things stand, the England Under-21 international midfielder is a squad player at Liverpool, especially when all the senior midfielders – Thiago, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho – are fit.

Jones has made one start and one substitute appearance in the Premier League, and made one start and one substitute appearance in the Champions League for the Reds so far this season.

The midfielder has also played 67 minutes in the Carabao Cup.

Jones made 13 starts and 11 substitute appearances in the Premier League for Liverpool last season.

That’s mainly because there were injury problems for the senior Liverpool players.

Klopp clearly rates Jones highly, and staying at Liverpool and working with the German on a daily basis is only going to help the 20-year-old get better and improve.
