Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp spoke to BT Sport about his fondest memory from the Champions League final game against Tottenham Hotspur last year.
The German led the Reds to their sixth Champions League title last season and that was a huge relief for the club as well as himself.
Klopp had the unwanted record of losing multiple finals as a manager over the years and he was glad to finally break the curse.
The Liverpool boss was asked about his fondest memory from the day in Madrid and his reply might surprise a few people.
Klopp said: “The wonderful Divock Origi goal. It was not our best game, it was not the best game of Tottenham. It was a final, we had to learn that as a team that we needed to win these kind of average games.
“When Divock scored the goal, I knew on the night that it was enough so we would win. That was my biggest memory. It was job done, and I really loved it.”
It really was a terrible game to watch for a neutral. But Liverpool fans certainly enjoyed the way that the game ended and Origi has since been hailed for his contribution in the competition.
The Reds have been better than every other side in the league in every department this term and the confidence from last season’s European triumph is arguably one of the biggest reasons why.
Sadly for Klopp, his side failed to get past Atletico Madrid in this year’s Champions League. But there is no doubt that they will be crowned Premier League champions as long as the season is resumed.
