Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp addressed the media ahead of his side’s first home game of the season, where they will take on Leicester City.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp seemed to have an element of disappointment in his assessment of the start of the Reds’ season, but said four points from their opening three games is not too bad, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.
The Reds will enjoy their first home game of the season when they take on reigning champions Leicester City at Anfield on Saturday evening.
Klopp told his pre-match press conference, as reported by the Liverpool Echo: “A lot of things happened. If you mix our games up, the first three or four, you can say you can lose at Arsenal and Tottenham, should not lose at Burnley, we could still have four points. It doesn’t feel good but it’s not too bad.
“We are the only team with three away games, we should not think about it but now we have a home game and it’s a wonderful opportunity for us.”
Klopp confirmed that Emre Can will return to training either today or tomorrow, but will not feature against Leicester as he continues to recover from an ankle injury, while the Reds boss confirmed that Ragnar Klavan will miss out after aggravating a knee problem. Sheyi Ojo is another player who is not featuring in full training.
Meanwhile, one of the stories of the transfer window was Mamadou Sakho staying at the club despite the Reds being open to letting him leave on loan.
Asked about the Frenchman’s situation at the club, Klopp replied by saying that they have to get the player fit as he has not played competitive football since April, but insisted that the player does not have to regain his trust.
The Reds’ boss added: “He didn’t play football for a long time, he needs to play football. That’s difficult here because the other players are fit.
“We had to speak about it before the window closes – that’s what I did. I’m not silly enough to forget good performances.”
