Liverpool edged a victory over AC Milan this week. The Reds had to work hard to gain three points at Anfield. There was surprise selection up front. Liverpool have to sell Divock Origi but Jürgen Klopp’s comments highlight the need to play him more regularly.

Liverpool 3-2 AC Milan
On Wednesday night two of the European Cup’s most decorated sides faced off.
Liverpool hosted AC Milan at Anfield for the first time with the two sides having met in finals in the 00s.
Liverpool took the lead early on when Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross was deflected in by Fikayo Tomori.
A penalty was awarded minutes later but Mo Salah couldn’t convert.
Throughout the first half the Reds remained on top but their wastefulness was punished as Milan grabbed two goals against the run of play.
Not to worry, Mo Salah levelled early in the second half thanks to marvellous Divock Origi assist and Jordan Henderson netted a Gerrard-esque winner 20 minutes from time.
Jürgen Klopp comments on Divock Origi
There was a surprise selection up front for Liverpool.
The forgotten man Divock Origi started the game having failed to make the squad in the Premier League recently.
Speaking after the game Jürgen Klopp admitted that Liverpool tried to sell Divock Origi over the summer but no ‘proper offer’ arrived. The gaffer previously called the striker a ‘Liverpool legend’.
Origi needs game time
If Liverpool are going to sign a new backup striker they’ll have to sell Divock Origi first.
However, they need to play him more in order to do so.
As the boss pointed out, no ‘proper offer’ arrived for him and that is likely down to how infrequently he plays.
The Reds are caught in a catch 22, play him and risk a drop in quality or don’t play him and risk not selling him.
Having said that, if he provides more assists like the one against AC Milan then playing him might not be such a tragedy.
