Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has told the Liverpool Echo that Diogo Jota isn’t wearing his knee brace at the AXA Training Centre.

Jota picked up a knee injury back in December, suffering the blow during a Champions League clash with Midtjylland.

Fans were furious that Klopp decided to play Jota in such a meaningless game, believing he had taken an unnecessary risk by starting him.

Jota has been missing ever since, and hopes of him returning this month appear to have been dashed as he works his way towards fitness.

Coming back in February now seems likely for Jota, and Klopp has given an interesting update on his situation.

Klopp claims that Jota has moved to a step where his knee brace is ‘partly off’, claiming he is only wearing it when he is at home.

Klopp added that Jota isn’t wearing his brace when he is at the AXA Training Centre, giving fans hope that the brace will be off fully very soon.

“Diogo’s knee brace is partly off,” said Klopp. “That is how it is. At home he is wearing it. Here he is not,” he added.

Once that happens, Jota – who has smashed nine goals in 17 games for Liverpool this season – will be nearing a return to action, and the Reds need him after scoring just one goal in their last four games.
