Liverpool are interested a move to sign Hakan Calhanoglu of Inter Milan after Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain suffered a serious injury that should sideline the midfielder for a few months.

That’s according to CalcioMercatoWeb, who report Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of Calhanoglu. The Reds boss also considered a move for the Turkey playmaker earlier this summer, but is now ready to pursue a transfer after Oxlade-Chamberlain limped off against Crystal Palace.

Liverpool expect Oxlade-Chamberlain will not feature again until October after he suffered a serious hamstring injury on July 15. The Athletic cite an expected absence of around two to three months, after scans revealed the extent of the damage the 28-year-old sustained.

Liverpool interested in Calhanoglu of Inter Milan after Oxlade-Chamberlain injury

Klopp has a handful of names on his radar to now provide an extra body in midfield before the Premier League starts. Inter Milan maestro Calhanoglu is one option the Liverpool boss admires, but is also interested in Ismael Bennacer of AC Milan and Juventus’ Adrien Rabiot.

However, while the Bianconeri would welcome the sale of Rabiot if it offers an interesting fee, the Rossoneri consider Bennacer to be untouchable. Inter Milan could sanction a deal for Calhanoglu, meanwhile, but CalcioMercatoWeb recently cited a €30m (£25m) price tag.

The Nerazzurri have shown a willingness to sell Calhanoglu for the right price after Antonio Conte showed an interest in Tottenham signing the 28-year-old. Despite the San Siro outfit only signing him last year after the 72-cap maestro left AC Milan at the end of his contract.

Calhanoglu penned a three-year contract after switching from one Milan club to the other. He also produced a strong season on a personal level with seven goals and 13 assists in 34 Serie A outings. But it was not enough for Inter to prevent AC Milan securing the Scudetto.

Now, Klopp could offer Calhanoglu a chance to play in the Premier League for the first time with Liverpool interested in the Inter Milan star – who ex-AC Milan boss Fatih Terim called a ‘phenomenon’ earlier this year – replacing Oxlade-Chamberlain following his injury blow.
