Jurgen Klopp makes prediction about Wolves when responding to Pep Guardiola’s comments

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has responded to Pep Guardiola’s comments.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has told The Mirror that he thinks Wolves will ‘end up going back up’ the Premier League table after a dismal start to the campaign.

Speaking after last week’s shock 3-2 defeat away at Norwich City, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola offered his congratulations to Liverpool on already winning the Premier League title.

That was obviously a tongue-in-cheek response to many suggesting that Liverpool’s five point lead at the top was already a major concern to City, and they’ve responded perfectly.

After seeing off Shakhtar Donetsk in midweek, City then completely hammered Watford 8-0 on Saturday afternoon, cutting the gap to league leaders Liverpool – possibly briefly – to two points.

Klopp takes his Liverpool side to take on Chelsea this afternoon, and he has taken the time to respond to those comments by Guardiola ahead of the trip to Stamford Bridge.

Klopp acknowledged that Guardiola will have been joking, especially because there are teams struggling who will end up rising up the division – such as Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The German thinks that Wolves are ‘struggling’ but will ‘end up going back up’ the Premier League table, noting that the league is ‘different’ this season for that very reason, so he knows Klopp was joking about the title already being wrapped up.

“It hasn’t been won already,” said Klopp. “Pep knows that – and that is why I understand, 100 per cent, why he made a joke about it. This season won’t be like last season. We have seen that already, with every team making big steps. There is not team in the league who I think will go down with hardly any points. You’ve got Watford who were at the bottom with two points but, performance-wise, they could already have had five, six or seven points.”

“Wolves are also struggling a bit – but will end up going back up – so we have already seen that the league is different this season. I think that’s why Pep responded like he did with a joke because nothing has happened so far. We’ve had just five games and so many things can still happen. You simply cannot think that far ahead. We have enough to do just ­thinking about the next game, then the next game and the next game,” he added.

Wolves have taken just three points in five games this season, with their Europa League campaign really taking its toll on them so far, but they’ve at least been given some backing by Klopp.
