Jurgen Klopp has claimed that West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur are in the race for the Champions League spots, when speaking at his latest press conference, which was broadcast on his club’s official Youtube channel.
Klopp was asked about the race for the top four, with Liverpool currently competing with a number of other teams for the Champions League qualification spaces.
Liverpool are currently trailing West Ham, but are ahead of Tottenham.
But Klopp still considers the London clubs rivals to his team, as they compete for European football.
“There are other teams [as well as Chelsea] – West Ham, Tottenham will come again,” he said.
“And, of course, Leicester. United are not really involved, I’m not sure. And City are already gone.
“For the neutral fan it is exciting, for Liverpool supporters it is exciting as well – but maybe not in the way he wants. But we will give it a proper try.”
Klopp’s comments intriguingly excluded to mention Everton, in a move which may annoy some at Goodison Park.
West Ham fans will surely be delighted to see their side talked up as a genuine top four contender now, though.
The Hammers proved that they are to be taken seriously last weekend, as they put in a spirited display against Manchester City, despite defeat.
Tottenham are now a very interesting side to predict – as they have shown signs that they are starting to click into gear in an attacking sense, despite a concerning run of form.
Spurs beat Burnley 4-0 at the weekend, and now have a winnable sequence of games, where if they can take maximum points they may be able to climb right back into Champions League contention again.
