The Liverpool goalkeeper has spent most of this season watching on from the sidelines.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp spoke to reporters during his pre-match press conference today, and took time to praise Simon Mignolet, labelling him as the best number two in the Premier League, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.
The Belgian stopper joined the Reds from Sunderland in the summer of 2013, for a fee believed to be worth £9 million, but a series of high-profile errors over the past few years led to Klopp bringing in Alisson last summer, and he has since been demoted the the club’s umber two.
Mignolet has played just two games for Liverpool this season – both of those coming in cup competitions, but he has remained incredibly professional when others would have kicked up a fuss.
And Klopp praised the 31-year-old for his efforts in training, highlighting how he is the best number two goalkeeper in the entire top flight, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo:

“We only have a first XI. The quality in training when all the boys are fit is incredible. I’m sure he (Mignolet) thinks of himself as a number one but he’s the best number two in the PL. He has improved in the last year because of his professionalism and his attitude. It’s just brilliant.”
Mignolet is unlikely to feature for Liverpool again this season, and despite Klopp’s praise, it would be no surprise to see him leave Anfield in the summer, with just two years remaining on his current contract.
