Liverpool were soundly beaten 3-0 by Barcelona in the Champions League last night.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp addressed the media after last night’s defeat to Barcelona, and suggested that it was their best away performance in the Champions League for two years, as quoted by the club’s official website.
Despite the final score-line, the Reds actually played well against Barca, and they posed a threat to the Catalan giants throughout the entirety of the match.
Klopp’s men still came up short, however, after Lionel Messi took the game by the scruff of the neck in the final 15 minutes of the contest.
The German was clearly happy with Liverpool’s performance, when speaking to reporters after the game, going as far as to suggest that it was their best performance away from home in the Champions League over the past two years, as quoted by the club’s official website:

“For me, it’s very important how we played and I’m completely happy, I told the boys I’m proud of how we played. I think it was the best away game in the Champions League, not only this year, last year included. Against a side like this, playing this kind of football I was completely happy.”
Liverpool did not play badly, that cannot be disputed, but for Klopp to suggest that it was their best away performance in Europe for two years really is quite something.
Has he forgotten about their 3-1 win away at Bayern Munich earlier this season? Or last year’s 5-0 victory away at Porto?
The Reds were decent last night, but they were by no means at their best, especially defensively, and Klopp surely realises that deep down.
