Jürgen Klopp has plenty to worry about at Liverpool right now. The future is uncertain after FSG put the Reds up for sale, while the midfield department is still in need of reinforcements.
However, the German now has one less thing to be concerned about after news emerged from Spain.
Liverpool set to have a fresh Thiago
Well, the midfield issues were likely to increase had Thiago gone to the World Cup, given how fragile he is, although Klopp can now hand the Spain international a nice rest after Luis Enrique opted to leave him out.
The 52-year-old has also left Manchester United No.1 David de Gea out of his 26-man squad for the trip to Qatar.
Of course, Klopp wants the best for his players, and a part of him will feel upset knowing Thiago would have loved to travel with Spain to take part in the World Cup.
However, in our view at least, the 55-year-old will selfishly feel quite pleased, as it means there is now less chance of the 31-year-old suffering an injury which disturbs the second half of the 2022/23 campaign.
Thiago is very injury prone, and has already missed six games as a result of fitness issues this term.
The difference he makes when starting for Liverpool is significant, and Klopp does not have a midfielder like him at Anfield.
In truth, there are few midfielders like him on the planet, so it baffles us that Enrique has decided to leave him out – nevertheless, Spain’s loss is most certainly Liverpool’s gain.
Liverpool must manage Thiago
The Reds plan to jet off to Dubai for a warm weather training camp during the World Cup, which should be beneficial for Thiago as he attempts to avoid more injuries.
However, Liverpool’s medical team must stay on top of his work, and ensure he is not doing too much, or too little.
Thiago turns 32 in April, and with so much fixture congestion in England nowadays, Klopp can’t afford to be without him for another lengthy period in 2023, or it could see Liverpool miss out on some silverware.
Hopefully, Thiago is not too upset by his World Cup exclusion, and can channel any feelings of frustration he may have into positive performances for Liverpool.
