Liverpool academy product Rhian Brewster will have a chance to prove himself in pre-season, with the new Premier League campaign getting underway in August.
Jurgen Klopp has hailed Rhian Brewster as a ‘really big talent’ as Liverpool return to pre-season training and prepare to push for the Premier League title once more.
Striker Brewster is yet to make his senior debut for Liverpool, but that could come to an end this season, with Klopp keen on having a look at what he can produce.
There are a number of senior players that were absent through injury, some worse than others, last season, with the likes of Adam Lallana and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, in particular, missing for big periods.
Ahead of the new season, Klopp has described the senior duo as ‘new players’, as he spoke in awe of 19-year-old Brewster, who he’ll be keeping an eye on during training.
“If Ox can stay fit – new player for us,” Klopp told Liverpool’s official website. “Rhian the same; he is a really big talent. We’re really looking forward to seeing him in training and all that stuff. It will be an important role for us, we planned an important role for him. So, new player.
“Like Joe Gomez is pretty much a new player. Adam Lallana, new player. After a lot of problems last year, if these boys can really stay fit then that’s completely different to last year for the team because there is real quality. That’s cool.”
There is a place in Liverpool’s squad if Brewster takes it with both hands this summer. Klopp is always looking for someone to add attacking bite from the bench, and the youngster has the capabilities of doing just that.
With Daniel Sturridge’s departure, it has left another attacking position empty in Klopp’s squad, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if he tried to fill that via the transfer market.
