Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has raved about Naby Keita on the club’s official website.
Klopp has been impressed with the progress that Keita has made and is pleased with his performances so far this season.
The 25-year-old central midfielder has stated Liverpool’s opening two Premier League games of the season.
Klopp has joked that the Guinea international became worse after he started coaching him.
Klopp told Liverpool’s official website: “Naby is doing really well. For some reasons it was in the beginning… well not really in the beginning, in the very beginning it was very good. I didn’t speak a lot to him about football, I just wanted to let him do his natural stuff so that was really good.
“Then I started coaching him and he got worse! That’s maybe not the main reason but then he was a bit unlucky with injuries, that was the main reason.
“Naby had to learn the language, to feel really settled in the squad and all these kind of things. He is doing really well, we take care of him.”
Stats
Keita has had injury problems at Liverpool and has not been able to make himself an indispensable part of the team.
According to WhoScored, the 25-year-old made nine starts and nine substitute appearances in the Premier League last season, while during the 2018-19 campaign, he made 16 starts and nine substitute appearances in the league.
Getting back to his best
However, Keita remains a player who has huge quality and a lot of potential, and perhaps the Anfield faithful will see the best of him this season.
With the signing of Thiago from Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window, it is going to be tough for Keita to play regular first-team football this season, but such competition for places could bring out the best in him.
