Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn is having a wonderful Euro 2020 with Scotland, and there is no surprise that Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have been linked with him today.
According to The Sunday Post (Post Match pullout, 20/06, p2), Liverpool are interested in signing McGinn in the summer transfer window.
We covered the report here on HITC Sport today.
The report mentions a £20 million-plus price-tag, but for a rich club such as Liverpool, it is hardly an insurmountable sum.
McGinn is a very dynamic and combative midfielder who was wanted by Brendan Rodgers when the Leicester City manager was in charge of Celtic.
The 26-year-old is doing well at the Euros and was superb for Scotland in their goalless draw with England.

What Jurgen Klopp said
Liverpool manager Klopp is already a fan of McGinn, according to his comments in 2019, calling him “a super player”.
The Daily Record quoted Klopp as saying in September 2019 while discussing Andy Robertson and Scotland: “As a left-back, you can’t win a game alone. It’s just not possible.
“He doesn’t have to though because you have other good guys – John McGinn, what a super player he is, Robert Snodgrass, a wonderful player, Scott McTominay has great potential.”

Georginio Wijnaldum replacement?
Georginio Wijnaldum has left Liverpool for Paris Saint-Germain, and McGinn is likely to be seen as the replacement for the Netherlands international midfielder.
Villa are a big club, but Liverpool challenge for and win major competitions.
McGinn could easily fit into the Reds’ high-pressing game and give manager Klopp a valuable option.
The 26-year-old scored three goals and gave five assists in 37 Premier League matches for Villa last season.
