Jurgen Klopp is some way off being ready for Barcelona job

The Liverpool boss needs to prove himself before being a candidate to manage La Liga giants.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has denied that he is interested in managing Barcelona.

Klopp was linked with the managerial position at the Nou Camp earlier this year, as reported by the Mirror.

However, Klopp has insisted that he is happy to remain at Liverpool.

As reported by the Daily Mail, Klopp said: “I don’t need good weather.

“I’m really happy at Liverpool, as I was really happy at [Borussia] Dortmund. I’ve fulfilled my dreams already.

“If Liverpool don’t want me anymore, I have to start thinking new. But in this moment I’m really happy and I don’t think about any clubs.”

It is intriguing, however, that Klopp was linked with Barcelona in the first place given the difficulties that he has endured at Liverpool.

Over two years since taking the job, Klopp has yet to win any silverware at Liverpool, even though he reached the finals of the Europa League and the League Cup in his first season in charge, in which the Reds were beaten by Sevilla and Manchester City respectively.

Klopp has made a considerable amount of changes to his squad and at times this season Liverpool have played some excellent, dynamic, free-flowing football.

With the likes of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah to call upon and Philippe Coutinho and Adam Lallana capable of creating chances with regularity, Liverpool are certainly one of the most exciting attacking sides in Europe when at their best.

However, Klopp has so far failed to address Liverpool’s longstanding defensive issues despite bringing in the likes of Joel Matip and Ragnar Klavan, and there are some Reds fans who have criticised his refusal to provide significant upgrades at the back or in goal.

If Klopp was to eventually manage Barcelona then he surely would have no problem in appeasing the Catalan club’s supporters in terms of attacking play but concerns exist regarding whether the German would be able to get the team functioning effectively as a unit.

Klopp may not want to manage Barcelona at present but the evidence suggests that he isn’t ready for such a sizeable task anyway and should first focus on attempting to make Liverpool more resilient at the back.
