Jürgen Klopp has been speaking to the media ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Manchester City tomorrow, and he’s reserved praise for one player.
The German waxed lyrical about Ilkay Gündogan, who he spent four years with at Borussia Dortmund before leaving the Westfalenstadion.
The Mirror quote him as saying: ‘Ilkay was one of the best players I ever coached. He was unbelievable and played pretty much like he is playing now.
‘I wish him really well and that he can continue like this.’
However, amid the praise, Klopp revealed that he’s been ‘a little bit’ taken aback by one thing the 42-cap Germany international keeps doing.
When asked if he was surprised about the 30-year-old ‘s rich vein of form, Klopp said: ‘The goalscoring maybe a little bit, the rest not.’

Impressively, the man who cost Manchester City £21 million has scored seven goals in his last ten Premier League appearances.
Gündogan has already more than tripled his tally of two Premier League goals from last season, in what has been an incredible purple patch.
Pep Guardiola must be absolutely thrilled that he’s found a new source of goals.

The former FC Nürnberg’s man’s form has come at just the right time, as Gabriel Jesus only boasts four Premier League goals this season in Sergio Agüero’s absence.
While Klopp sounds genuinely pleased to see his former player thrive, he’ll be hoping for Gündogan to leave his shooting boots at home tomorrow.
If the Gelsenkirchen-born maestro helps City win, then Liverpool will find themselves ten points behind the Citizens having played a game more.
