The defender has missed the Reds last two pre-season games with an ankle injury.
Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp watches the players warm up
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has insisted to the club’s official website that Joel Matip will be fit for the start of the Premier League season.
The defender is one of seven new signings at the club this summer after originally agreeing a move earlier this year.
He did start for them at the beginning of pre-season but has missed the last two games due to an ankle problem.

That has left fans fearing he will miss the beginning of the Premier League season and further adding to Liverpool’s defensive problems.
Klopp has move to ease those fears though, saying he expects his central defender to start the season.
“I expect him to start the season,” he told the club’s official website.
“The first two-and-a-half weeks were really good, he became better and better and then he was out. Hopefully he can be in team training as soon as possible. The season start at this moment is not in doubt.”

It now remains to be seen whether if Matip will be fit for the start of the new season as Klopp says.
The Reds will certainly be hoping so, with the centre of defence looking like something of a problem area for them once again.
Mamadou Sakho’s future is in doubt after he was sent home, while they have also lost Joe Gomez after he suffered a set back in his rehabilitation.
That leaves just Ragnar Klavan and Dejan Lovren as options for the German, which is not ideal, despite his outward confidence in both.
