Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has hailed Marko Grujic’s debut for the club as wonderful, speaking to the Liverpool Echo.

There is a lot of expectation surrounding the Serbian after Klopp pushed hard to bring him to Anfield earlier this year.

The midfielder was handed his full debut in the EFL Cup clash with Derby County on Tuesday evening.

It proved to be a happy first start for him too as he put in a composed display as part of a midfield three alongside Jordan Henderson and Lucas Leiva.

His manager was certainly impressed by the display, labelling the young star as a wonderfully skilled player.

“Marko had a wonderful debut – really good. He is a wonderfully skilled player,” he told the Liverpool Echo.

“If the defensive skills had the same quality as the offensive skills then he is an outstanding place, but we are working on it and he is working on it.”

It now remains to be seen if Grujic goes on to become a first-team star for Liverpool in future.

He is facing a fight to get into the Reds midfield at this moment in time, with Henderson starring under Klopp and Georginio Wijnaldum unlikely to lose his place.

Klopp has shown a willingness to use youngsters, though, and if Grujic continues to impress then it will likely not be long before he is a first-team regular.
