Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has hinted to the Liverpool Echo that Xherdan Shaqiri may be on his way out of the club.
The Reds were in Carabao Cup action on Thursday night, drawing 0-0 with Arsenal at Anfield before losing on penalties.
There were chances for the likes Marko Grujic and Harry Wilson, whilst new signing Diogo Jota made his first start for the club since joining from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
However, there was no Shaqiri in the squad, which raised some eyebrows as a Carabao Cup tie would have been an ideal time for him to play.
The Swiss winger hasn’t been injured, so fans were left wondering just where Shaqiri was as a rotated Liverpool side took to the field without him.
After the final whistle, Klopp refused to confirm just why Shaqiri wasn’t playing, but stated that it wasn’t down to injury or disciplinary reasons.

Klopp added that it’s the ‘time of year’ where information comes to managers about certain players, hinting that he has learned Shaqiri could be on the move, and that’s why he was left out ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline.
“I can’t and I don’t want to say anything about that,” said Klopp. “What I can say is he is not injured and it is not for disciplinary reasons. It is a time of the year when a manager get some informations then I have to react on that,” he added.
Shaqiri, 28, joined Liverpool for just £13million in the summer of 2018, and is surely desperate for playing time after just 31 Premier League appearances for the Reds – though it’s unclear just where he could be heading.
