Newcastle and Stoke City were both reportedly keen on taking the Liverpool striker on loan.
Jurgen Klopp has suggested that he plans to keep Danny Ings at Liverpool beyond the January transfer window amid widespread speculation that the striker could go out on loan.
Ings has only played 15 games in two-and-a-half years at Anfield because of a couple of serious injuries, and it was thought that the Reds may allow him to leave to gain some valuable game time.
While Klopp would not confirm if the 25-year-old would make his first Liverpool start since October 2015 in Saturday’s FA Cup tie with West Bromwich Albion, the Reds boss did indicate that Ings will be used more often over the rest of the season, which takes the possibility of a loan move off the table.
“He’s in really good shape, but there’s nothing to say at the moment about the lineup,” Klopp told his pre-match press conference, according to The Daily Star. “We’ve had a few players ill, I don’t know. Ings is doing really well, the fact that we don’t send him on loan show what our plans are with him.
“Since the injury it’s been ups and downs. He’s physically completely there, I can’t remember the last session he wasn’t properly involved. It’s a good situation for him and for us at the moment.”
The news will come as a blow to Stoke City, who The Sentinel understands were considering a late bid for the former Burnley forward, and also Newcastle United who were linked with Ings by The Telegraph earlier this month.
Newcastle have since move on to Feyenoord frontman Nicolai Jorgensen, but may have wanted to revist their interest in Ings after seeing a £12m bid rejected for the Dane, according to Sky Sports.
