Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Jurgen Klopp has made a claim about West Ham’s summer business, saying that they haven’t gotten worse as a team this summer.
There has been a lot of frustration from West Ham fans this summer, and for good reason too. The Hammers are the only Premier League side that haven’t made a permanent signing as of yet, and their pursuits of targets such as Nikola Milenkovic seem to be dragging on and on.
However, Klopp says that West Ham are still just as good as they were last season.

Klopp was speaking about the contenders at the top-end of the Premier League next season, and he put West Ham into the conversation.
“I mention these four, but it may not only be these four. It looks like Leicester made some really good business again. Arsenal will be fighting, Tottenham is obviously trying very hard. West Ham played their best season for a long time last year, and they didn’t get worse over the summer, so it will be an interesting league again, very interesting,” Klopp said.
Not quite true
As much as Klopp is a genius and you have to respect everything he has to say, we can’t help but disagree here.
The sad reality is that West Ham have gotten worse this summer.
Yes, they’ve managed to keep key players such as Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek, but they’re still yet to replace Jesse Lingard, who was arguably their best player in the second half of last season.
Add into that the fact that Sebastien Haller still hasn’t been replaced by a new number nine, and it’s fair to say that West Ham have taken a small step backwards since last term.
Luckily, the window is still open and there’s still time for the London club to sort this out.
