The makeshift left-back scored his fourth goal of the season in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Swansea City.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has joked to BBC Sport that he will be happy if James Milner finishes as the club’s top scorer via penalties this season.

The midfielder was once again on target from the spot on Saturday, securing his side’s 2-1 win over Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium.

It was his fourth goal of the season so far, all of which have come from the penalty spot, more than any other player in the Premier League so far this season.

It means he is currently the Reds’ top scorer and Klopp has joked he is happy for it to stay that way.

“If Milner is our top scorer at end of the season with penalties I have no problem with it. All is good. The performance was not perfect but it was good enough today,” he told BBC Sport.

While pleased to see his side win the game, Klopp was not happy with their performance in the first half.

Swansea dominated for periods in that first 45 minutes and could have doubled their lead had they been more ruthless in front of goal.

Liverpool contributed to that, looking a shadow of the team that has overrun several opponents already this season and Klopp was far from pleased.

“I thought we could have done better in the first half,” he added.

“Our body language was not good, we were static and it was easy to defend against us. We are not as good as we should have been.”
