Liverpool sealed a dramatic 2-1 win over Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs at Anfield, securing their place at the top of the Premier League table.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admits his side struggled to deal with Tottenham forwards Harry Kane and Heung Min Son during their fortunate 2-1 win at Anfield on Sunday, as reported by Football London.
With just minutes remaining, Liverpool looked set to drop two huge points in the Premier League title race after Lucas Moura had slammed in from close range to cancel out Roberto Firmino’s early header.
But The Reds sealed a potentially decisive win in the most dramatic fashion. Toby Alderweireld inadvertently bundled the ball into his own net after Hugo Lloris had spilled a Mo Salah header with the clock ticking over the 90.
Liverpool were certainly fortunate, not just in the manner of their winning goal but because Spurs missed a number of clear chances in a frantic final quarter of an hour.
And Klopp admits that his side’s usually watertight backline was given the runaround at times by Kane and Son, the latter causing problems with his speed and movement when brought off the bench.
“I was not surprised that we conceded a goal because in the second half we were not as good,” the former Dortmund coach said.
“Spurs changed from a five to a four (in defence). Harry dropped a little bit more and Son came on and it didn’t make things easy. They scored a super goal when they were quicker in mind than we were.”
Kane helped set up Spurs’ equaliser with a wonderful cross-field free-kick but, like Son, ended up on the losing side for the fourth time in five Premier League games.
