Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is available for Liverpool against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park, says Jurgen Klopp.
The Reds will take on Newcastle away from home at St. James’ Park in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
Oxlade-Chamberlain is fully now and is available at the moment, with the former Arsenal midfielder having recovered from his long-term injury.
The England international has not started a match for the first team in 13 months, but manager Klopp has suggested that the 25-year-old could start against Rafael Benitez’s side this evening.
Klopp told The Daily Mail about Oxlade-Chamberlain: “It is perfect that he is back but the intensity of the game we will see. It is very good that Ox is there and for sure he will be in the squad but we have to make a decision who starts.
“We will use him, of course, but there is nothing good to say about Naby’s injury but Ox being back is brilliant, yes.”
Major mistake?
Oxlade-Chamberlain is a very good midfielder, and it is great that the former Arsenal man is available for Liverpool.
However, the 25-year-old has only just come back from a long-term injury, and it will be a risk to throw him from the start against Newcastle.
Liverpool have to win against the Magpies on Saturday evening to maintain the pressure on Manchester City, and Klopp cannot take a risk in such a crucial game.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has been on the books of Liverpool since the summer of 2017 when he joined from Premier League rivals Arsenal for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £35 million.
