Dominic Solanke has joined Liverpool in the summer transfer window after leaving Chelsea at the end of last season.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted to The Daily Mail that he did not know much about Dominic Solanke before his move to Anfield in the summer transfer window.

Solanke joined Liverpool earlier this summer after leaving Premier League rivals Chelsea at the end of the 2016-17 campaign.

The 19-year-old striker had been on the books of Chelsea since 2004, but the youngster failed to make a single appearance in the Premier League for the Blues.

The teenager spent the 2015-16 season on loan at Dutch club Vitesse and was part of the England Under-20 team that won the FIFA U-20 World Cup this summer.

Liverpool manager Klopp has admitted that he did not know much about Solanke before making the decision to sign the English striker.

“It was difficult to find footage about him,” Klopp told The Daily Mail about Solanke. “It was a long time since he played so it was hard.

“The only thing we could get was a little bit in Holland and a bit of Under 20 or Under 19. That’s not the best footage.

“I started to learn more and more and I trust the guys around us, the scouts, so I said, ‘Let’s do it’. I’ve seen a lot of skilled boys in my life and he looks like a nice project.”

Solanke is a talented and promising young striker, and Liverpool fans should be looking forward to watching him in action.

Although the Anfield faithful should not expect the teenager to do great things rightaway, one should not be surprised if he does establish himself as an important player for the Reds by the end of the 2017-18 campaign.
