Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp has fired a warning at Premier League title challengers next season, claiming superstar Mohamed Salah is capable of even higher levels.
Mohamed Salah has been crowned the PFA Player of the Year, FWA Footballer of the Year and Premier League Player of the Season, but despite this showering of accolades, Klopp still believes his star talisman is yet to realise his full potential.
The Egyptian has been Liverpool’s superstar this season, with his goals guiding them to a top four finish and a Champions League final, surpassing any expectations people had when he arrived from Roma last summer.
“He [Salah] has played this season outstandingly, but he is young enough and has enough potential to improve,” Klopp told the Mirror after the game.
“That’s really good news for all of us and him as well. He still has work to do, and I am really happy about that. But what he is in his mind is a real goal-getter and that’s cool. I’ll mix it up in a few moments and there’ll be goals again.”
The Egyptian’s goal against Brighton at Anfield on Sunday secured the Golden Boot award and simultaneously broke the record for number of goals in a 38-game campaign in England’s top flight, previously held by Premier League greats Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Saurez and Alan Shearer.
Klopp is understandably thrilled for his star player, but demands a big performance in Liverpool’s upcoming Champions League final against Real Madrid.
“I’m happy for him that he gets the Golden Boot. But it’s very important that he has two weeks to prepare for our biggest game so far, that’s for sure. It’s a massive one.”
Salah had looked a shadow of his best in recent weeks following the triumph in the Champions League semi final, but appeared to be back to his formidable best against Chris Hughton’s side, which is bad news for Sergio Ramos and co, who will not be looking forward to coming up against the Reds’ frightening front three in Kiev.
