Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that defender Kostas Tsimikas is now facing a similar lay-off to Diogo Jota.

The Reds snatched a point away at Fulham on Sunday evening, as Mohamed Salah’s penalty cancelled out Bobby De Cordova-Reid’s opener.

The injuries kept coming for Liverpool though, as Joel Matip was hooked at half time for Takumi Minamino, with Jordan Henderson dropping into a centre back role.

Matip had a back issue that may not rule him out for the midweek clash with Tottenham Hotspur, but it’s still far from ideal for Klopp.

Diogo Jota is now out for up to two months with a knee injury sustained against Midtjylland, and it seems that left back Tsimikas will be missing for a similar amount of time.

The Greek international started against the Danish side last week, but wasn’t in the squad to face Fulham on Sunday.

He may have been in line for some playing time over the busy festive period given how much football Andrew Robertson has played of late, but that now won’t be happening.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Klopp has confirmed that Tsimikas will now miss a similar amount of time to Jota – around two months – and branded the news ‘unbelievable’ as he faces up to another significant absentee.

“It’s pretty similar with Kostas Tsimikas, by the way. Unbelievable,” said Klopp, as his backup left back’s 2020 comes to an end.
