Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp addressed the media today ahead of his side’s clash with Tottenham on Sunday, and provided an update on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, as quoted by the club’s official website.

The 25-year-old has been out all season, after rupturing his ACL during the Champions League semi-final clash with Roma last term, but he is slowly returning to full fitness, having appeared for the club’s under-23 side earlier this month.

Liverpool are currently sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League table, and having someone like the Ox back and available for selection could be a huge boost for them as they head into the final stretch.

Klopp, however, admitted that he should not have made such a big deal about the Englishman’s impending return during his press conferences, as quoted by the club’s official website:

“I think one of the biggest mistakes I made was being so excited about having Ox back. The spotlight on the game at Derby with the U23s was pretty rare. I’m pretty sure Ox felt a little bit after the last session with us and then he played the game and felt a little bit more. So now we keep him a little bit in the shadow; he is in a good moment.”

Sunday’s game against Tottenham will definitely come too soon for the former Arsenal man, and it will perhaps be more realistic for him to be targeting Liverpool’s Champions League clashes with Porto as a potential return date.
