USA coach praised Sunderland’s Tottenham loanee DeAndre Yedlin.
USA national team coach Jurgen Klinsmann was impressed with DeAndre Yedlin’s performance for Sunderland against Crystal Palace.
The American right-back is on loan from Klinsmann’s former club Tottenham Hotspur, and has regained his place in the team over the last three games after Billy Jones picked up an injury.
Yedlin had barely featured in January, and Sunderland taking Emmanuel Eboue on trial meant Yedlin’s chances looked bleak, but fortune has turned around in his favour.
He helped Sunderland secure a draw against Crystal Palace, with the game ending 2-2, with Fabio Borini netting a late leveller.
Fans should not get too excited over Yedlin’s assist. He simply played a simple pass straightforward a few yards outside the box to Fabio Borini, who did all the work by taking the ball on and whipping it across goal into the net.
Even so, it was Yedlin’s first assist of the season, in his 10th Premier League start for the Black Cats.
Klinsmann was certainly happy to see the international defender making progress, while his parent side Tottenham will no doubt be relieved he is getting games at an important stage of the season.
