Gary Neville has joked on Sky Sports Premier League (11:06pm, October 3, 2022) that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp should leave his role at Anfield.

The former Manchester United star made the joke about Klopp and Liverpool in response to Jamie Carragher saying that Gareth Southgate should leave the England managerial job after the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar.

Speaking on Monday Night Football, former Liverpool star and Sky Sports pundit Carragher said that Southgate should quit his England role after the World Cup regardless of what happens in the competition.

Carragher mentioned boredom as one of the reasons.

The Sky Sports pundit noted that given that Southgate has been the England boss for a while and has done well, with things not going well at the moment, it would make sense for him to quit.

Like a club manager would.

In response, fellow Sky Sports pundit and former Manchester United defender Neville joked that Klopp should do the same.

Klopp has been in charge of Liverpool for seven years now, and while things have been great in recent seasons, the Reds are struggling at the moment.

Carragher said: “If I were Gareth Southgate, I would probably walk away after Qatar. No matter how it goes, you can just feel it turning.

“And sometimes you know what it is? It’s boredom. It’s like you are a club manager for five or six years, and you have done really well. And as soon as it goes a little bit (bad), you want something new, fresh.”

Neville responded with a laugh: “I think Jurgen definitely should leave.”
